Digital Dental X-Rays in Sedalia, MO
If you ask any dentist what the key is to a healthy smile, most of them will have the same response: prevention and early detection.
That is why dentists are such sticklers when it comes to regular dental exams and cleanings – those visits are important and go a long way toward protecting your health.
At Tiger Family Dental, we want you to enjoy a healthy smile throughout your lifetime.
Why Prevention Is Important
Many people wonder why they need regular preventive appointments if nothing is going on. That’s because we want to keep it that way! Dental exams, professional dental cleanings, and diagnostic x-rays are all part of a plan to stop dental conditions before they start.
If patients miss too many routine dental appointments, we can predict we will be seeing them for something more serious in the near future.
Diagnostic Digital Dental X-Rays
Part of prevention is early detection. The trick with teeth is that they have strong enamel protecting them, so pain is not a good indicator of a problem. If you reach the point where you have a toothache, your condition is probably pretty advanced.
Dental x-rays allow Dr. Jon to diagnose conditions that are not visible to the naked eye alone. Decay can hide beneath the gumline, between teeth, and even below your enamel. What looks like a small spot on the outside can actually be damaging your teeth internally.
By taking regular x-rays, we are guarding you against more serious dental issues that can lead to dental crowns, root canal therapy, and even tooth loss. Decay that was hidden from view can be detected using digital x-rays.
Using x-rays, we look for:
- Bone loss
- Cracked roots
- Cysts or tumors
- Secondary decay
- Damaged restorations
If we see one of these conditions, Dr. Jon will alert you right away and give you some options for protecting your oral health.
How Often Do I Need Dental X-Rays
We recommend dental x-rays based on your needs. For patients who have little dentistry and few problems, once a year is probably enough to monitor your health. For other patients who have a lot of dentistry, experience a dental emergency, or suffer from a chronic condition such as periodontal disease, we may need to take x-rays more frequently. We will discuss this with you.
Are Dental X-Rays Safe?
Today’s digital dental x-rays emit up to 90 percent less radiation than traditional x-rays. Not only is the amount of radiation you'll be exposed to very small, but it is even less than you can absorb by being outside on a sunny day. We take every precaution we can, including draping you in a lead apron and thyroid cuff to make sure your x-rays are beneficial and without health risks.
Digital X-Ray Benefits
Computers can make our lives easier and better. It’s no different in dentistry! Digital x-rays provide us with the highest resolution images available. Dr. Jon can zoom in, adjust contrast, improve exposure, and create various views allowing him to diagnose conditions like dental decay earlier than ever.
